On the first to eighth day of the first lunar month, activities were held in Qianzhou Ancient Town, Jishou City, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
At night, the streets were brightly lit up, with red lanterns hanging under the lintel and boat lights flickering on the banks of the Wanrong River. People dressing up as God of Wealth and Earth God marched through the city. There were also dragon dances by the Wanrong River.
On February 13, the annual Miao hundred lions dance performance was held in Dehang Village, Aizhai Town, Jishou City. With the sound of gongs and drums, the “lions” stood on the 6.75-meter-high table, with the “lion tamer” leading the way and the “big headed Buddha” holding a cattail leaf fan, directing and teasing behind the “lions”, which attracted numerous tourists to take photos.
Meanwhile, an intangible cultural heritage performance kicked off in the city. When 1,600-degree burning iron chips were thrown into the air, sparks-like fireworks suddenly soared into the sky, amazing a large number of tourists and citizens.
